OTH Saturday Slam/Paper Round/Zeppelin

right then… the last night of me being wired up to the machines tonight, with the current hiatus of regular saturday programming, i thought for one week only i’d roll all 3 strands of stuff into one handy saturday shaped bonanza.

so… from 12:00 we’ll have USWA’s programming from march of 1993:

for anyone who’s been following along the write ups or the programming, we’re currently seeing the local memphis wrestling programme getting invaded by the WWF.

on WWF TV, Jerry Lawler has turned up as the “bastard commentator” and general gobby heel wrestler, and harvey wippleman has been kicking off with WWF ring announcer Howard Finkel.

here in the USWA, Jerry Lawler can do no wrong – he’s the face of memphis and has been for years. Him and Jeff Jarrett as the main good guys have been feuding with Brian Christopher (Lawler’s son IRL – not referenced here). Brian’s been hanging round with the heel contingent and bringking in various WWF stars to try and get one over on Jarrett and Lawler. So far we’ve had Doink the Clown covering the floor in banana peels for Lawler to slip on, we’ve had “downtown bruno” (WWF’s Harvey Wippleman as a good guy) have a heel promo cut on him by Howard Finkel (who although he tried to be all mean and condescending still sounded too nice to really be a bad guy). Then at the finish of last week’s programmes, Lex Luger turned up with Brian Christopher and there was a big thing made about the physique etc… until Lawler basically showed a video package (that had been removed from the captured video) of him throwing fireballs at people he couldn’t beat fair and square. Cue Brian Christopher and Luger kicking off about big style and shitting themselves about being set on fire. that’s where we left it.
Note: the business model of memphis was based around selling tickets to the live events with a studio based wrestling show back in this era, so there’s going to be a lot more talking and peripheral bollocks than there will be actual wrestling. I can’t remember exactly when Vince himself turns up to beta test his evil empire owner gimmick out, but we’re definitely getting closer.

at 4pm, the usual paper round:

  • chucklevision
  • ship to shore
  • my parents are aliens
  • mysteries from beyond the other dominion
  • beavis and butthead
  • new wave theatre

my own “spin the wheel” radio pilot to break things up – randomly selected promos from the inbox.

Then, somewhere around 7 – the zeppelin takes flight with:

  • Strange Paradise
  • space island one
  • holey moley
  • time commanders
  • Luke’s Kingdom
  • Prisoner Cell Block H

there’ll be “muzikbrakes” along the way. actual times might or might not follow, but that’s the order. i might bonus something at the end if im still awake, and i’m giving Avvron and Barry the day off, so we’re going old school and just having the programmes running on this one. AI continuity will return next week when we’re back on schedule 🙂
