OTH Weekly Zeppelin

cabtv

this thursday is the second week of the new season in the main schedule, here’s what’s on tap.

in the early zone, the lads and lasses of Byker Grove are still up to whatever the hell they’re up to, we spend one last half hour in the company of Mr Hell, and bid farewell to the dulcet tones of Bob Monkhouse. Chucklevision however has a bloody long way to go as we roll straight into series 4. this time some tit has hired them as plumbers. in Under the Mountain, it looks like we might get some more shape shifting shenannigans with the kiwis, slime monsters and glowing stone nuts that the old guy likes to get the kids to hold. Beavis and Butthead are right in their prime at the moment, series 5 started last week truely the golden age. sadly it’s the last “alright now” though, and i’ve not thought of anything to replace that with. the radio thing might expand temporarily while im working on that.

the radio bit – songlines – two episodes of a series looking at a certain song. they’re in my folder in alphabetical order, i’ve decided to play them in reverse order because… well, elvis fucking presley and “always on my mind” can wait frankly. or be omitted altogether if the series dies on the toilet before reaching the end.

the main schedule. strange paradise is somehow still ticking over. between haunted paintings, egyptian keys, poison challices and one character deciding she’d rather die than still be part of all this silliness we’ve now got native american folklore involved. joy of joys.

we’re in the middle of the wind down for Jupiter Moon. Burt Reynolds is just around the corner folks!

as we wave goodbye to the pyro and balleyhoo of rollergames, we welcome to the schedule the complete goddamned insanity of Holey Moley. i mean who thought the world needed crazy golf mixed with takeshi’s castle style physical games? whoever decided it did must have really liked it, because its ran for 4 series in the US and i’m currently looking to acquire the aussie version. (i’ve seen some clips, and i think the health and safety rules are a little more lax in that one. i’m not going to spoil it or say anything else until i find the full versions of what i saw. you can enjoy that surprise as much as i did)

in an attempt to make some of the zonage a little less stark (action games into serious drama can sometimes be a bit of a jarring contrast) the second slot in the “action zone” will be occupied by Dark Side of the Ring. While a documentary series about wrestling might not sound like something of interest, the stories of life on the road through various eras, true crime, glory and tragedy in a business run by varying levels of bastard with various balances of love for the business and regard for the performers within it along with the production behind these stories make this a must watch. If there are any inside terms/references that people want elaboration on, i’ll be here to help, but these are pretty rarely used without explanation in this series to be fair

we continue our journey into limetown with Lia Haddock, and then as always we have a double dose of caged heat, an oddity archive and a gig that’s not to be missed to finish off with – Mike Patton live in Chile doing Mondo Cane. The more i watch and listen to this guy, the more i come to the conclusion that he’s been given a gift of god tier vocal talent, and an attention span of a gnat. with the ability to do so much with his voice and the inclination to just go “fuck it i’m gonna do this”, Faith No More was really just the tip of an iceberg that’ll sink anything outside of possibly the good ship Diamanda Galas
