09:50 Drag Me to Hell (2009)

Feature Presentation

Drag Me to Hell (2009)

In Drag Me to Hell; Sam Raimi’s first return to the horror genre since the acclaimed Evil Dead trilogy, we follow a loan officer (Alison Lohman, Beowulf), who chooses not to extend an elderly woman’s mortgage for self-serving reasons. In retaliation, the woman (a Gypsy, but oh, of course) places a curse upon the loan officer; one which will see her suffer three days of escalating torment on Earth, only to be swiftly followed by enteral damnation within the bowels of Hell itself. As per usual for a Sam Raimi horror flick, you can expect chills, spills and (as a dead old crusty cunt oft said) a lorra lorra laughs. Justin Long (Jeepers Creepers) co-stars.

WHAT THE CRITICS SAID…

Believe you me when I say that any respectable person unfortunate enough to wonder into a screening of this terrible film will soon be begging to be dragged to hell themselves. For you see, eternal damnation within a living Bosch painting, burning upon the fires of hell, being jabbed in the scrotum by demons with pointy sticks, would undoubtedly be preferable to suffering through another single second of this bilge of tiresome cinematic tripe.

Ultimately, this film is nothing more than a puerile exercise in immature artistic masturbation; an attempt to ejaculate a vision of tasteless gore and tired tropes upon the poor eyes and within the ears of its long suffering audience. The filmmakers themselves, Sam Raimi chief among them, are the only ones truly deserving of being dragged to hell. In fact, the Beelzebub really ought to create a special tenth circle of hell, especially crafted for all of the talentless filmmakers whom I have had to suffer through during my many years as an esteemed film critic.~ Percival Lebb (Rock, Shock & Drop magazine)
