9:20 THRILLER SEASON FILM: Funny Games (2007)

The Meatball TV thriller film season continues.

A shot-for-shot American remake of 1997’s Austrian thriller from original director Michael Haneke, which acts as a commentary for violence in Hollywood movies. An idelic family arrive at their holiday home, when they are visited by a pair of polite and seemingly pleasant young men. Armed with deceptively sweet smiles and some golf clubs, they proceed to terrorize and torture the tight-knit clan, giving them until the next day to survive.

Starring Naomi Watts, Tim Roth, Michael Pitt and Brady Corbet.

“Haneke’s film is disturbing to watch, but that is exactly the point. In an era where the media has pretty much desensitized violence, Haneke has found a way to make it all seem uncomfortable.”
~
Michael Compton (Bowling Green Daily News)

“Director Michael Haneke elected to remake his tawdry Austrin thriller for an American audience, so that they too may suffer through this desperate-to-be-edgy, pointless tale of voilence, alongside the original European audience. Perhaps Heneke would have better served worldwide audiences by demaking both films out of existence.”
~
Percival Lebb (Rock, Shock and Drop Magazine)
