Replacing OTHII on its monthly night off, another stream by yours truly. As ever, schedule subject to change from late evening — 11pm (and especially 1am) — onwards.
16:00 – Intro Music
16:03 – Musical Railway Cab Ride – A journey from Margam to Carmarthen via the Swansea District Line, in a Class 60, accompanied by various tunes, mostly a very personal selection. Guaranteed no Frankie Goes To Hollywood (or any other ZTT bands), however I do start with some previously-aired Dead Can Dance as they’re the very same tunes I used to play doing a similar journey at night along the M4.
17:28 – Assorted Music Videos – To take us up to the hour (and slightly beyond), eight music videos.
18:01 – Rainbow: “Listening to Sounds” – more adventures with Geoffrey, Bungle, Zippy & co.
18:15 – Secrets of the Sun – a Nova/National Geographic Special about the nearby thermonuclear bomb that keeps us all lit and warm.
Due to a transmission breakdown 7m20s into Secrets of the Sun, it was abandoned and the rest of the schedule revised as follows:
20:07 19:19 – James Burke – Connections – S01E04 – “Faith in Numbers” – Fourth episode of the legendary series exploring the history of technology in a non-conventional way. From the Radio Times listing: “What’s so special about French knickers that makes it possible to print the radio TIMES? What’s the connection between the rats of Troves and the American Census of 1890? And why did everyone get a soaking when they went to dinner with the Archbishop of Salzburg?” First broadcast Tue 7th November 1978, 7.20pm, BBC1.
19:08 20:08 – Magic – S01E03 – Close-Up Magic – part of a 2004 BBC documentary series about magic. Features Penn & Teller, among others. First broadcast on Sat 30th Oct 2004, 20:25 on BBC2. (When I initially scheduled this I hadn’t realised it was part of a series until I went to fish out more details for this listing. Having waded through Genome and checked out the write-ups of the earlier episodes, I’m more than happy to be showing this one first.)
21:07 – Paul Daniels’ Camera Trick – one of the most astonishing tricks I’ve ever seen, absolutely no clue how it’s done.
20:55 21:16 – The Blood On Satan’s Claw – just pipping Talking Pictures’ showing of it tomorrow night (which they’re following with last week’s “Carnival of Souls”!), here’s the infamous 1971 British supernatural horror film directed by Piers Haggard and starring Patrick Wymark, Linda Hayden, and Barry Andrews. Set in early 18th-century England, it follows the residents of a rural village whose youth fall under the influence of a demonic presence after a local farmer unearths a mysterious deformed skull buried in a field.
22:52 – It’s the Tube That Makes the Colour – a short film by Mullard about the manufacture of CRT picture tubes. Shown as a BBC2 Trade Test Transmission between 1968/05/06 and 1973/08/22.
22:32 – Britain – a travelogue of this sceptred isle, brought to you by BOAC (a forerunner of British Airways, for our younger viewers). Shown as a BBC2 Trade Test Transmission between 1969/08/25 and 1973/08/22.
22:57 – Intermission
23:00 23:10 – A rerun of the Musical Railway Cab Ride from earlier, for those who will have missed it.
00:24 00:34 – Likewise, a rerun of the Assorted Music Videos from earlier on, for anyone still up.
00:57 01:07 – Closedown music.
01:02 01:11 – Closedown.
