Sploff TV – So that was Christmas.

Hello. I hope it went well. Well enough at any rate. If there’s nothing left to do, pull up a cushion or two and have a looksee over these offerings.

16:00

Preamble time. A ketamized Ol’ Blue Eyes himself sings a version of his Christmas song, whilst someone wanders the north side of a Stafford high street that has let itself go. A short film that still manages to outstay it’s welcome. You’re welcome.

16:10

Project UFO. Citizens of small town USA are menaced by alien craft. Our two air force heroes gaslight them into thinking it’s just swamp gas or geese or something. Tag line: We Don’t Want You To Believe.

17:00

Plague Dogs (1982). Two cartoon canines escape an animal testing facility, their route may or may not have brought them into contact with some nasty germs. It’s another Richard Adams animation but even grimmer than Watership Down, despite not having any Art Garfunkel in it.

18:45

Blooming Youth (1973 – Play for Today). A young chief inspector Japp (Philip Jackson) is one of four university students who pass a bit of time. It’s like the Young Ones with all the squalor but none of the fun. Saw this when I was studying for A-levels. Made me seriously question the whole doing to college lark.

(If the quality of Blooming Youth isn’t up to snuff I have an episode of Out of the Unknown I can throw on as a substitute – Death Day)

19:55

Ice Cold in Alex (1958). It wouldn’t be Christmas without a war film. John Mills plays a pissed up Captain Anson who is trying to get an old ambulance from Tobruk, through enemy lines and to Alexandria. It also stars Henry Andrews (the Hill) and CABtv favourite Anthony Quale (the Evil Touch), and not forgetting Sylvia Syms.

22:05

Psych-Out (1968). Hippies, thousands of them. One of them is Jack Nicholson. Another one is Dean Stockwell, and a third is Bruce Dern. There are many more. The lads of Strawberry Alarm Clock and the Seeds make an appearance, performing some of their music numbers for everyone to groove along to while they tune off.

23:50

Peace Out
