Hello.
Thought I’d give this another try. Come watch me.
Will I be able to get the stream to start? Will the subtitles swiftly get out of sync during the black and white foreign film? Can I stay awake for the duration?
All these questions and less – on Sunday 16th 16:30 (that’s half passed four in old money).
So what’s the schedule then?
16:30
Preamble tune. Followed by “The Six Towns in the Potteries” a documentary from 1960 about the creation of Stoke as city. See the haircuts, hear the accents, smell the cautious optimism sixty three years before the then Tory MP Jonathan Gullis called his constituents “savages”, “scrotes”, and “scumbags.”
16:55
Last and First Men (2020) Directed by Jóhann Jóhannsson, and based of the classic science fiction novel by Olaf Stapledon. Tilda Swinton (Orlando, Constantine) is the voice of humanity, two million years in the future, warning us of what’s to come. The book is great by the way, written shortly after WW1 it predicts man’s many evolutionary rise and falls. I’m not sure how much makes into into the filum however.
18:05
Project UFO. Picture the X-files, but it’s the 70’s instead of the 90’s, and instead of Mulder and Scully of the FBI it’s two blokes from the air force and instead of aliens out to get us its just blue light bouncing off a strut. Enjoy here episode one, which comes with the kind of poor picture quality you get with most actual raw footage of UFO sightings. Ironic or what?
18:55
The Exterminating Angel (1962). Directed by Luis Buñuel. This ‘surrealist black comedy’ tells the tale of a group of toffs who go along to a dinner party, that cannot be stopped! Subs!!!
20:30
Saturn 3 (1980). Kirk Douglas, Farrah Fawcett and Harvey Keitel make a terrible mistake in this scifi flop. On Saturn’s third moon a nine foot tall robot with a brain composed of human fetuses is beta tested. What could go wrong?
I vaguely remember seeing this in my early teens and enjoying it. I’m curious to how this older, decrepit me will find it.
21:55
Magnetic Rose (1995). Based on a manga by Katsuhiro Otomo, this remains one of my favourite animations and was previously shown on Sploff TV #1 (kindly hosted by Flouncer). A deep space salvage freighter picks up what sounds like a distress single and goes check it out, as you do. Subs!!!
It’s got space, its got opera. It’s got a 43.40 minute runtime.
For those who saw this first time round, this version is a higher resolution copy.

Nice one Sploff, looks like a good ‘un. I’ll pop along in the evening
