18:40 – When_Ruby_Wax_Met_Series_1-02._Episode_2
Unlike any other host before or since, Ruby was revolutionary in meeting more female guests than male. This episode looks back at these revealing, entertaining and unguarded meetings.
Pamela Anderson – one of the biggest TV stars in the 90s – proved to be so funny and outrageous that Ruby interviewed her twice, discussing everything from Jung to sex. Sharon Stone talks frankly about fame, having a movie star alter-ego and ageing.
Bette Midler emerges from a junket to burst into cabaret on an escalator, Liza Minelli misfires not once but twice before bringing down the house with undeniable talent, Dame Joan Collins is more playful and down-to-earth than we have ever seen her before, and the Spice Girls talk about the future (including the then-newly engaged Victoria) before Ruby joins them onstage in a glorious display of girl power.
19:40 – Around The Fab Four (6 May 1964)
1964, Beatlemania was in full effect. The Fab Four were the young kings of the rock and roll world — and indulging in all sorts of wild promotional antics. One particularly fun event was their TV special Around the Beatles.
Taped in London’s Wembley Park Studios on April 28, 1964, and broadcast internationally a week later on May 6, the show kicked off with a riotous performance of Act V, Scene I of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream — starring Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Ringo Star and John Lennon as the female lead Thisbe.
The show also includes performances by Long John Baldry (“Got My Mojo Working”), P.J. Proby, Millie and more, including, of course, The Beatles themselves closing the show with a collection of their hits like “Twist and Shout,” “Can’t Buy Me Love,” “Shout” and more.
