Allow me to take you on a boggy Autumnal stroll into drowsy Winter pissup-land with this TASTY BUFFET of OLD AND NEW telly treats.
16:00 – Library mix
\ Italian library funk from the Gemelli and Globevision labels, accompanied by a voyage to Trip-Out City.
16:40 – Bad Influence!
\ It’s 1994 and Bad Influence has had a revamp, let’s hope it doesn’t plummet to the ground and smash into thirty-two bits.
17:00 – Password
\ Very early (read: cheap) Channel 4 word game, and a very brown one at that. Hosted by Tom’O’Conn’o’r’, the show originates from a 1960s US format which was soundly ripped off for Three Little Words.
17:30 – Chain Reaction (Radio 4)
\ A great edition of the lively one-on-one interview show. This time a rarity of a witty, funny chat between two non-comedians – Alan Moore (creator of V For Vendetta) interviews musician, producer and visionary Brian Eno.
18:05 – FILM: Carry On England (1976)
\ Out of curiosity I thought we’d look at what could be a particularly feeble offering in the Carry On canon (whose brand of seaside sauciness is in crisis by 1976 in the face of more explicit cinematic offerings). An experimental unisex Army unit attempt to have it off with each other while those in charge attempt to stop them. ENGLAND.
19:30 – Cardinal Burns
\ Decent comedy sketch show from 2012, a few of which I’ve shown on Late Zones. The Banksy sketches are a particular favourite.
20:00 – Building Sights
\ More pointing at buildings and going ‘look at that fucker’ – this time, the Canary Wharf tower – pointed at, poked and pondered by Jools Holland.
20:10 – A Sense Of The Past
\ Lovely old brown telly from 1986 – Dr Graeme Garden sits in an old cinema and talks to a collector of old cinema adverts dating back to the turn of the 20th Century.
20:40 – The Thick Of It
\ Post-election, Nicola Murray’s party is now in opposition, while somehow she has been promoted to party leader despite forgetting how to operate her legs. Malcolm has other ideas.
21:20 – Dave Allen – In Search of the Great English Eccentric
\ More old brown telly – a wonderful documentary made for ATV in 1974. Comedian Dave Allen does a brilliant job of investigating and interviewing that most dubious of creatures, ‘Great British eccentrics’. Features aceness from Ivor Cutler. (Rescheduled from the Show #32.)
22:10 – How To Rock A Party with DJ Z-Trip
\ Ever wondered how the fuck analogue DJing is done? Z-Trip gives you some tips and tricks on getting the party bumping.
22:40 – Film Buff Of The Year
\ Are you a buff? Do you buff film? And do you come from a year? Then pit your wits in the Film Buff Of The Year contest, hosted in BBC2 brown-o-vision.
23:05 – Blindboy Undestroys The World
\ An episode I’d missed out – the comedy/consumer investigation show, hosted by Blindboy Boatclub of The Rubberbandits. This episode takes a look at why everyone’s nerves are fucked.
23:40 – Night mix
\ A mix of banging breaks accompanied by a colourful spin through the inventive classic coin-ops of Sega.
00:40 – Closedown
Bonus entertaining parps, burps and splats throughout – or your money back
