the Show #34 – Weekend Whamburger!

This Saturday – A meaty stack of comedy, music and entertainment, sizzling and served in an obscenely bulbous bap.

16:00 – Bad records
\ In the late 70s, Kenny Everett presented the World’s Worst Wireless Show on Capital Radio – a ‘Bottom 50’ rundown of the worst records chosen by listeners. This radio show and its compilation LP are entertainingly dissected by comedian/musician Beardyman, on the Rule Of Three podcast. Includes bonus bad records!

17:00 – Bad Influence!
\ More silicon ballbags in series 3 – Andy Crane produces a cloud of steam which he swears is a 3DO M2, while Zee Wright puts on a VR helmet and then everyone does ‘tosser’ signs at him.

17:20 – You’d Better Believe It!
\ Another panful of quizzy gunk emerges from low in the barrel – Nicky Campbell tries to inject some spunk into this weird ‘guess the celeb from this appalling line drawing’ affair from Grampian. Look out for the ‘HSE nightmare’ set, which surely must’ve created at least one grazed shin plus cracked ribs by the end of the run.

17:50 – Adverts & Continuity
\ Some particularly heady ads and news and that from the Tyne Tees region in 1986, because why the heck not.

18:15 – Cardinal Burns
\ Decent comedy sketch show from 2012, and tonight we conclude series 1. The Banksy sketches are a particular favourite.

18:40 – Bottom: Exposed
\ Nicely put-together TV documentary from 2024, probing around the workings of Rik Mayall & Ade Edmondson’s Bottom. Lots of interviews, insight and behind-the-scenes goodness.

20:10 – Building Sights
\ Bite-size show about architecture – Damien Hirst gives an ekphrastic celebration of the Worsley Medical Building in Leeds, because you fackin’ love it don’t you, eh.

20:25 – The Thick Of It
\ Spin doctor and pain in the arse Stewart Pearson takes Peter Mannion MP et al off to the countryside to twat about at his strategic ‘Thought Camp’. Back at the office, Mannion’s coalition partners take a chance to spend money the Government doesn’t have, just before the shit goes down in a nearby Westminster tent.

21:00 – My Wrongs #8245-8249 and 117
\ Short film from 2002 – directed and written by Chris Morris, it was the first production of Warp Records offshoot Warp Films. A disturbed man is tasked with looking after a friend’s dog.

21:20 – FILM: The Rutles – All You Need Is Cash (1978)
\ Superb music mockumentary which traces the career of The Rutles, a.k.a. The Prefab Four. Written by and starring Eric Idle and Neil Innes, it was made for NBC in 1978. Look out for a buffet of British and SNL comedy players in the cameos.

22:35 – Cunningham-Vision
\ Programme extracts examining the music video work of director Chris Cunningham, including interviews and behind the scenes footage. Features Björk.

22:55 – Bobby Fingers
\ Comedy – visual effects geezer and ex-Rubberbandit Bobby Fingers constructs another moment in pop cultural infamy as a ridiculously detailed diorama. And then buries it.

23:20 – Closedown

Bonus gherkins of surprise stashed throughout
