Funbucket 48 (26.06.20)

This week’s main feature is a pair of films each featuring two slacker buddies with musical aspirations. Wayne’s World (1992) stars Mike Myers and Dana Carvey as Wayne and Garth, a pair of laid-back musicians who host a public access TV show. Their local fame gains the attention of a major network, but they find more trouble than they bargained for in the sphere of professional broadcasting. In Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure (1989), Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter star as the titular heroes. Upon meeting their time-travelling mentor Rufus (George Carlin), they learn that their band Wyld Stallyns will one day serve as the inspiration for a utopian society. To keep the band together they must embark on a madcap journey through time.

Sploff Vision VII – 27-06-20

Hello.

I’m attempting another stream this Saturday. It’s a little longer than normal so the start time is 7pm

The pre-show warm up act is part one of Galactic Nightmare, a space opera that some say rivals Jeff Wayne’s War of the Worlds. The show proper is as follows:

A couple of animations – La Belle at la Boite, and Mirror Child. An instructional film for CABbers – having learnt already about making friends, and fitting in, here is Dating Do’s and Dont’s.

Our first film is by the the team that brought you A Matter of Life and Death. A Canterbury Tale is one of my fav ‘war films’ which may seem odd because another is The Hill. I find this to be a thoroughly pleasant film, especially where the American soldier is interacting with Kentish locals. Watch out for a cracking line about tea near the end.

This streams Sheppey piece is Wrecks Around Britain, featuring the SS Richard Montgomery, or as I like to call it – that Ship Shaped Sword of Damocles.…

we say goodbye to Play for Tomorrow this week, and the end of series 1 of 1990 – meaning next week is film week. All being well, it should end up being The Rise and Rise of Michael Rimmer. If not, i’ll find something suitably interesting.

all programmes are slightly under allotted time apparently, so if you’re waiting for something specific then plan for 5 min per programme before the one you’re waiting for in the schedule.

Sidebottom Restream

This evening there’s a stream going on to commemorate ten years since the death of Chris Sievey – there will be rare and previously unseen Sidebottom footage that might be of interest to the CaB TV community, so I thought a watchalong might be in order. It starts at 7pm and goes on until about 11.30pm.

Thursday Throwback (18.06.20)

This week’s retro show will focus on 1987 and that year’s great storm (watch out for Michael Fish’s infamous weather forecast). I’ve dropped Fresh Prince because it was getting a bit annoying. The main feature for tonight is a Play For Today from 1977 – Willie Russel’s Our Day Out tells the story of a group of kids from a run down Liverpool school going on a trip to Conwy Castle. We finish off the evening with some gratuitous Noelry in Telly Addicts, inane pedantry in Points of View, and we join Gordon Burns as he puts the contestants through their paces in The Krypton Factor.
