This week is a bit of a funny one; I need to decide what to do with a couple of things. Consequently the comedy block will be a bit shorter than normal, which frees up some time for a pair of fairly long films which share a common theme. In the first film, Gran Torino (2008), Clint Eastwood plays a decrepit Korean War veteran living in a Detroit suburb overrun with crime and gang-related violence. Finishing the evening, Michael Caine plays the titular Harry Brown (2009), a former Royal Marine who lives on a deprived London council estate. In each film our elderly heroes cast aside their zimmer frames in order to take matters into their own arthritis-riddled hands.
