This week’s music show starts at the usual time, but will probably consist of performance footage – I will be doing an additional music show on Saturday during my birthday special. Alexei Sayle’s Stuff makes its debut this week, replacing the recently departed Black Books.

My films of 1993 season draws to a close this week with the fourth and final instalment. Tune in on Friday to find out if Cop and a Half, directed by Henry Winkler and starring Burt Reynolds, can take the crown as the worst film I have ever shown.

“A haemorrhoid-and-a-half to anyone who sits all the way through this abjectly painful comedy… Does about as much for Reynolds’ career as Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot did for Sylvester Stallone’s.” Leonard Maitlin

“The worst film of 1993.” Gene Siskel

As some sort of consolation for sitting through this AIDS-tier guff, I will then show one of the better films of the year – Groundhog Day, directed by Harold Ramis and starring Bill Murray.

As usual I’ll be warming up with some test card and teletext stuff around 5pm. The main show will start at 6pm with another CITV block featuring some classic shows and continuity. The usual programmes follow. Pick up some lockdown tips in this week’s Weird Weekends, as Louis meets some survivalists. The film will be Joe’s Apartment (1996), a musical comedy starring Jerry O’Connell and Megan Ward. Joe, our protagonist, moves into a scummy apartment in downtown New York, owned by a ruthless slumlord. He soon discovers that the apartment is home to a host of mischievous, wisecracking cockroaches with a penchant for song and dance (Billy West and Dave Chapelle are amongst the voice actors for Joe’s blattodean buddies). Rounding off the night we have a Late Show special on folk legend Martin Carthy, followed by some Open University programming and a closedown.
