It stars Christopher Strauli as Norman, a rather naive middle-class man who is admitted to a hospital ward and finds that he is sharing it with a working-class layabout called Figgis (James Bolam) and an upper-class hypochondriac called Archie (Peter Bowles). All three of them cause headaches for the hospital staff, led by Richard Wilson with Derrick Branche. This week, Norman’s overbearing, hypochondriac mother comes to visit and he is initially scared to tell her he is romancing nurse Jenny. Norman’s cowardice gives Glover the opportunity to try and make a move but Figgis puts him off with lies about Jenny and the young couple eventually stand up to Mrs Binns. Figgis meanwhile shares a passionate embrace with a visitor who is not his wife – and is also unaware that he has one… First broadcast on Tue 27th May 1980 by ITV. …

Sepulchre XXIX (05.11.23)

With Halloween firmly behind us, we move onto the third instalment of the franchise so stupendously bad it can’t hang onto a lead for more than one film – Cyborg 3: The Recycler (1994). In a desolate straight-to-video future where the corporations that created them have fallen apart, cyborgs are now hunted down and stripped for parts like Mk. 3 Escorts. A recast Cash Reese (Khrystyne Haje) inexplicably becomes pregnant, and must travel to the fabled city of Cytown to seek answers from a cyberneticist. What shocking revelations await her? Who the fuck is Malcolm McDowell’s character, and why did he sign on for this garbage? Will this be the worst guff we’ve ever sat through in our lives? Tune in to find out.

Sunday Slam

a few weeks ago we started out venture into the bizarro world era of pro wrestling known as “McMemphis” where Vince McMahon and the WWF (at the time) “invaded” Jerry Lawler’s Memphis promotion USWA.

The USWA was in the process of becoming a “feeder territory” to the WWF – that is, a place where wrestlers would go while they were honing their skills and the creative team were preparing something for them to be / do on WWF TV.

Jerry Lawler was just starting to become a fixture on WWF TV in the commentary booth, working as a heel / villain in preparation for an in-ring debut later in the year. We all saw how that went, and it was good fun, but what was even more fun was how this partnership was portrayed on the USWA TV show.

See, Lawler had for years been known as “the king of memphis” – something that extended beyond his wrestling persona, and it was almost impossible to get the fans to turn on him. Which they would have had to do to align what the USWA was doing with what WWF was. So they didn’t.

Vince McMahon and his merry band of global TV superstars,…

Gaming Stream

Before we hop back into the Winnebago and return to post-halloween normality, I’ve decided to do a bit of a free-form gaming themed stream this week. I never really got round to the Blood playthrough I’d intended to do on Sunday, and we had some multiplayer fun with the GTA halloween event week, so it would be nice to have another go at it. Hedge will be joining later in the evening (we might have a crack at the Rocket League tournament): if anyone else wants to join in let me know on Discord and I can work out the games around your availability. Possibilities include, but are not limited to:

GTA Online

Red Dead Online

Rocket League
