oooOOOOOoooo(TH) TV

the continuity’s having the night off tonight, as are the regular features/series. though i might run the next strange paradise after 7pm just to see how it stacks up with this marathon.

the usual anthology roulette material was getting a little stale/repetitious, so i thought that something i’m probably never going to find a slot for in the schedules for and “speed run” some of it.

Christopher Lee’s Theatre Macabre

Recommended from a friend and Leodensian Goth/Schlock culture connoisseur as follows:

“The dramas themselves appear to show Polish theatre and TV at the time as stuck in a tradition of Stanislavskian realism so rigid that it’s almost like hallucinating – as if a Russian theatre troop from the 1910s had been left doing a constant production on a desert island, until they can only walk in straight lines

This Polish TV equivalent of ‘Tales Of The Unexpected’, topped & taled by Christopher Lee, has dozens of episodes but absolutely none of them land – all running the gamut from trite to downright incomprehensible. The Lee segments often bear absolutely no relation to the stories themselves, seemingly based on the original stories rather than the rather loose adaptations on the show,…

17:45 – Only When I Laugh – S02E05 – The Visitors – A sitcom made by Yorkshire Television for ITV, written by Eric Chappell (Rising Damp, Home to Roost). It stars Christopher Strauli as Norman, a rather naive middle-class man who is admitted to a hospital ward and finds that he is sharing it with a working-class layabout called Figgis (James Bolam) and an upper-class hypochondriac called Archie (Peter Bowles). All three of them cause headaches for the hospital staff, led by Richard Wilson with Derrick Branche. This week, Norman’s overbearing, hypochondriac mother comes to visit and he is initially scared to tell her he is romancing nurse Jenny. Norman’s cowardice gives Glover the opportunity to try and make a move but Figgis puts him off with lies about Jenny and the young couple eventually stand up to Mrs Binns. Figgis meanwhile shares a passionate embrace with a visitor who is not his wife – and is also unaware that he has one… First broadcast on Tue 27th May 1980 by ITV. …

aloha folks – about 11:00 i’m going to be kicking off the streams over the next couple of weeks – this is because the episodes are slightly over an hour and it saves any potential over-run.

why are we planning for the next few weeks? well let me tell you a little story about 1993 and the WWF.

Jerry Lawler turned up playing an absolute bastard in WWF in 1993, tearing apart the worldwide TV stars both verbally and physically. that’s what everyone around the world saw. Lawler, the King of Memphis was part of the organisation running the USWA who had a working relationship with the WWF to work as a feeder company. on the locally broadcast USWA programming, Lawler could do no wrong. he was more popular than hogan at the height of hulkamania.

While WWF showed Lawler and a various members of the USWA alumni as the heels against the stars the world knew and loved,…

Sepulchre XXVIII (22.10.23)

This week Angelina Jolie stars in our unmissable feature Cyborg 2 (1993). Jean Claude Van Damme apparently gave this one a swerve, appearing only in flashback sequences. In the year 2074, a saucy next generation corporate murderbot rebels against her mercantile masters and goes rogue. Along the way she makes friends, falls in love, and does all the things a young cyborg should.
