Sheepy Fill-In Stream #6 – Wed 2021/11/24

17:30 – Intro Music

17:33 – Musical Railway Cab RideParts 2 and 3 of the three-part journey from Settle to Carlisle, accompanied by various tunes, mostly of the dream-pop / shoegaze / dancey variety this time round.

18:55 – Gulliver’s Travels (1939) A full-length animated version of the Lilliput story, produced by Max Fleischer and directed by Dave Fleischer. The film was the Fleischer Studios’ first feature-length animated film, as well as the second animated feature film produced by an American studio after Disney’s “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs”.  Paramount commissioned this feature in response to the success of that film.

20:11 – James Burke – Connections – S01E03 – “Distant Voices” – Third episode of the legendary series exploring the history of technology in a non-conventional way. First broadcast Tue 31st October 1978, 7.20pm, BBC1.

21:01 – Night of the Living Dead (1968) The George A. Romero horror classic. The radiation from a fallen satellite causes the recently deceased to rise from the grave and seek the living to use as food. Considered the first modern zombie film.

22:39 – Colour (1975) A short (20 minute) film from ICI about various aspects of colour: colour perception, colour in nature, the spectrum colours, colours used as descriptive labels, and the use of colour in manufactured items – paints, glass, dyes, and plastics. This is an update of an earlier 13-minute version from 1947 which was best known as a Trade Test Colour Film shown by the BBC from 1956 to 1970. This is a new digital transfer from an original 16mm Technicolor print.

22:59 – A re-run of the earlier Musical Railway Cab Ride for those who missed it (mainly me, as I was too busy building the rest of the schedule sometimes less than 30m ahead of the actual playout!).

00:25 – The Orb’s Adventures Beyond The Ultraworld (Patterns & Textures) – By special request from a late-night viewer, another showing of The Orb’s extended music video containing highlights from the album of the same name.

01:15 – Future Shock (1993) — Continuing the late-night mood, a re-run of this lovely 50-minute mix of trancey/ravey/ambient type tunes originally released as a sell-through VHS with special kaleidoscopic glasses. Enjoyed many watches back in the day, albeit I didn’t usually bother with the glasses…

02:05 – Cue the Music – Danielle Dax Live at Camden Palace 1985-09-30a request from a late-night viewer, described as “the B-52s meet Siouxsie”. The performance that is, not the viewer.

02:58 – Doris Day – The Deadwood Stage – because one of the songs Danielle Dax performed sounded very like it!

03:02 – Dead Can Dance live at HFT Mensa Bremen 1986 – because the Danielle Dax gig reminded me a bit of Dead Can Dance, so I thought “why not look for one of THEIR live gigs?”

03:56 – Dead Can Dance – Advent – because during an otherwise excellent gig, they murdered this track a bit, and I wanted to show our listeners how it SHOULD be played. 🙂

04:02 – Cocteau Twins – Five Ten Fiftyfold – because it’s a cracking tune!

04:07 – Cocteau Twins – Sugar Hiccup – likewise!

04:10 – Cocteau Twins – Lorelei the lovely second track off of “Treasure”.

04:14 – Cocteau Twins – Persephone – more treasure off of “Treasure”.

04:18 – Cocteau Twins – Those Eyes, That Mouthfrom the last decent EP they ever did, 1986’s “Love’s Easy Tears”. Halfway through it contains one of the most spine-tingling chord changes in musical history.

04:22 – Cocteau Twins – Blind Dumb Deaf – one of their early, spikier tracks, with a lovely fan-made video.

04:26 – Dead Can Dance – Nierikathe wonderful opening track of their late album “Spiritchaser”. Brings back memories of 2001-2003, when I used to drive from Swansea to Cambridge at 4.30am every Monday morning, this would come on the car stereo just as I drove along the M4 past the lit-up BP chemical plant and fire-belching Port Talbot steelworks. Incredible feeling.

04:32 – Charlie Morgan & Andy Pask – Overkillotherwise known as the original theme to “The Bill”, by request.

04:35 – Closedown Music

04:40 – Closedown
