Welcome to the first Sploff TV of the new year. Here then are the thing…
17:20 – Some minutes of music.
17:30 – The Jensen Code E13. In this, the last episode, will the lad from Kes remember the Jensen code in time to save the day?
17:55 – What About Drinking? CABTV booze hounds may wish to take note as these 1950s American youths discuss the pros and cons of alcohol.
18:05 – Heaven and Hell. Part 4 of Carl Sagan’s Cosmos, in which the learned one takes a look at comets, asteroids and the planet Venus.
19:05 – Minbo no onna AKA The Gentle Art of Japanese Extortion (1992). Local ruffians have taken a liking to the hotel Europa, but they’ve didn’t bargain on Mahiru Inoue – a lawyer who specializes in dealing with the yakuza. Directed by Juzo Itami.
Fun Facts – Three days after the release of this film Juzo Itami was badly beaten and had his face slashed by members of a gang who didn’t take kindly to his film satirizing their ways. The resulting backlash led to a government crackdown against yakuza activity. It’s been alleged that Itami’s death five years later could have been a mob hit disguised as suicide.
21:10 – A Mystery Show! Come watch the first episode of a television show from the early 1980s that has yet to be included on any CABTV schedules… wonder what that could be then eh..? Eh..?
21:35 – The Vast of Night (2019). A quality piece of Sci-Fi set in 1950s New Mexico. Fay Crocker (Sierra McCormick), a young switchboard operator and Everett Sloan (Jake Horowitz), a radio disc jockey discover a mysterious audio frequency that could be extraterrestrial in origin.
23:05 – Genshiken S02E1 and S02E2. The Society of Modern Visual Culture attempt to get a comic published, featuring parody porn of their favourite anime show, in time for the latest ComicFest. All good clean, family fun.
Shows over at approximately 12 midnights.
